Spencer had gotten through that day’s shoot without any hiccups, and she was satisfied that she’d eased Heinrich’s nerves. The poor man, walking around thinking he wasn’t good enough to be with her because of their age difference when in actuality, he was just perfect in her eyes: old enough to know a bit about the world; smart enough to know how to act; accomplished in his field, and still sexy as hell.

But now that she was off-duty, she walked stealthily along the paths of the resort, thinking about the secret footage she had so far. She’d told Heinrich that she’d show him the project at some point and she truly meant that, but for the time being she felt it best to keep her furtive camerawork from him.

As Spencer reached the footbridge that crossed over the lazy river, she spotted Lucy, and she instinctively ducked into a secluded knot of shrubbery to watch and see what Lucy might do, and—more importantly—who she was with. Spencer turned on her camera and angled it in Lucy’s direction.

The guy was over-the-top cool, in Spencer’s opinion. He was taller than Lucy, dressed in loose linen pants and a white guayabera shirt with long sleeves that he’d rolled to the elbow and pushed up to reveal his smooth brown skin. He wore flip-flops and a pair of sunglasses that made him look like a rockstar. He and Lucy stopped to look at the lazy river together, and as they did, he lightly placed a hand on her lower back.

Interesting—had Lucy met someone at the resort? Spencer hadn’t seen this guy yet, and from the way he moved, she knew she would have picked him out of a crowd immediately if he’d been roaming the grounds of the Frangipani Fiji resort.

Spencer zoomed in on the pair as they turned their heads to look at one another, talking and laughing animatedly. This was good. A budding romance right under Spencer’s nose that she could integrate into her footage. Now all she needed was to get closer, to talk to Lucy more and find out how she’d met this dude. That—added to what she was getting of Mindy Shultz and the hot guy whose surfboard Mindy was trying to wax—could actually add up to a little mini storyline for Spencer to work on and present to the network. This side project could make a name for her in a way that being an assistant on the set of a reality show never would. She crouched down behind the bushes and kept her lens focused on Lucy and her island lover, hoping to catch something scintillating. A kiss, maybe—or perhaps a quick amorous moment there in the grass. Nothing unseemly, of course, but Spencer had an eye for what would catch her viewers’ attention, and this little union of two beautiful people at a tropical resort was just the ticket.
